A 19-year-old woman was shot dead near Shivaji Nagar in Govandi on Tuesday afternoon, prompting swift police action and the arrest of two suspects.
The young woman, a resident of Kamala Raman Nagar in Govandi, lived with her parents and two siblings. According to police, she had stepped out of her home around Tuesday afternoon when she was attacked.
Locals found her critically injured with gunshot wounds and rushed her to Shatabdi Hospital in an autorickshaw. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Two suspects arrested
Police have arrested her 23-year-old boyfriend and a 25-year-old woman in connection with the case. Preliminary investigation suggests the second accused allegedly had feelings for the man, and officers are probing whether personal disputes may have led to the crime.
The assailants reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident. Authorities said that while no eyewitness initially identified the shooter, CCTV footage from the area helped police trace the suspects.
A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Evidence under examination
The victim’s body has been sent to JJ Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have also seized her mobile phone and are analysing call records and messages as part of the probe.
Statements from her parents and friends are being recorded to establish the sequence of events and determine motive.
Officials have urged residents not to speculate as the investigation progresses.
The case has once again raised concerns over rising interpersonal violence and the need for timely intervention in escalating disputes.
