A 22-year-old man from Meerut died after suffering a brain haemorrhage, reportedly triggered by stress while playing an online game, raising fresh concerns over excessive mobile phone usage and gaming-related health risks among youth.

Sudden collapse during online gaming session

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Kaif, a resident of Khair Nagar in Meerut. According to preliminary information, Kaif was assisting his father in their business and was at the office when the incident occurred.

Police said Kaif was playing an online game on his mobile phone when he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a nearby nursing home and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital for advanced medical care. However, he died while undergoing treatment.

Doctors reportedly confirmed that a ruptured blood vessel in the brain led to severe bleeding, resulting in his death.

History of high blood pressure

Family members said Kaif had a known history of high blood pressure and was on medication. They also revealed that he spent long hours on his mobile phone, frequently playing online games and creating reels for social media platforms.

Despite repeated advice from family members to reduce screen time and mobile usage, Kaif reportedly ignored the warnings. Relatives believe prolonged gaming and stress may have aggravated his underlying health condition.

Growing concerns over mobile phone addiction

The incident has once again highlighted the potential health risks associated with excessive mobile phone use, particularly among young adults with pre-existing medical conditions.

In a separate and equally disturbing incident reported last week, three minor sisters in Ghaziabad allegedly died by suicide after their parents objected to their mobile phone usage. Reports stated that the sisters were playing task-based Korean online games, and their growing obsession with online content and gaming is believed to have contributed to the tragedy.

Call for awareness and moderation

Health experts continue to warn that prolonged screen time, gaming stress, and lack of physical activity can have serious consequences on both mental and physical health. Families and institutions are being urged to promote balanced digital habits and timely medical check-ups, especially for young individuals with known health issues.
