A 24-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants at a café in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur area late on Friday night, police said. The killing has triggered heightened security and a multi-team investigation to trace those responsible.
The incident was reported around 10.28 pm at a café in Welcome. Police received a PCR call about a firing and rushed to the spot, where they found a man lying critically injured.
Victim identified, declared dead at hospital
The victim was identified as Faizan, also known as Fazzi (24), a resident of Welcome. He was immediately shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared him brought dead, a senior police officer said.
A crime team and officials from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) inspected the scene and began collecting physical and scientific evidence. Police said it is still unclear how many assailants were involved and the precise sequence of events leading to the firing.
Case registered, CCTV under scrutiny
A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act, at the Welcome police station.
Preliminary inquiry suggests the firing took place inside or in the immediate vicinity of the café. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the establishment and nearby areas to identify the accused and track their movements before and after the incident.
Raids and questioning underway
Police teams have been deployed to conduct raids at suspected locations, and local informers have been activated to gather leads. Officers are also questioning café staff and people present at the time to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown. Police said further details would emerge as the investigation progresses, adding that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the culprits at the earliest.
