Rajasthan is often seen as a land of scorching heat, but during winter, some of its regions offer a cool, refreshing escape. From icy desert nights to chilly hill stations, Rajasthan surprises travelers with its cold weather, making it an ideal destination for an unforgettable winter vacation.
Churu
Known as the ‘gateway to the Thar Desert,’ Churu experiences some of the coldest winters in Rajasthan. Located in the Shekhawati region, temperatures can dip below freezing, with the lowest recorded temperature in December 2023 reaching -1.6°C. The sharp contrast between hot days and freezing nights makes Churu a unique winter destination.
Mount Abu
Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu, provides a cool escape from the desert heat. During the winter months, temperatures here can plummet to around 0°C. Despite being a popular tourist spot, it retains its chilly charm, making it a perfect winter retreat.
Pilani
Situated in the Jhunjhunu district, Pilani is known for its educational institutions and cold winters. Temperatures here can drop to 2°C, offering a stark contrast to Rajasthan’s usual warmth. The chill, especially at night, gives Pilani a unique winter appeal.
Jaisalmer
Although Jaisalmer is famed for its golden deserts, its winters can be unexpectedly cold. While daytime temperatures are pleasant, evenings can see temperatures drop below 5°C due to desert winds and clear skies, making the nights in Jaisalmer chilly and refreshing.
Kota
Located on the banks of the Chambal River, Kota experiences cool winters, with temperatures sometimes dipping to around 4°C. The foggy evenings and crisp mornings create a serene winter atmosphere, making it an inviting destination during the colder months.
Sikar
Another cold spot in the Shekhawati region, Sikar can see temperatures fall to around 3°C. The dry, desert climate intensifies the cold during winter nights, making it one of Rajasthan’s colder cities to visit.
