A 60-year-old man named Peter, a weaver from Kulitharai in Kanniyakumari, lost his life after bravely rescuing two children from drowning in the Tamirabharani river. Peter was reportedly on his way to work when he noticed the children struggling in the river’s strong current.

Without hesitation, Peter jumped into the river and successfully saved both children. Tragically, during the rescue, he got caught in the powerful current and went missing. Fire and Rescue teams launched an urgent search and recovered his body after hours of searching.

Peter leaves behind a son and daughter, facing an uncertain future without their primary provider. In honor of his courage, the Kulitharai community has come forward to support the family and appealed to the government to offer compensation. They have specifically requested a government job for Peter’s son to recognize his father’s selfless act.

This incident echoes a similar heroic rescue in April in Chennai, where a man named Kannan saved a young boy from an electric shock in flooded streets, risking his own safety to help a Class 3 student.

Peter’s sacrifice is a reminder of the everyday heroes among us who risk everything for others.
