In a tragic incident, a 70-year-old man lost his life after a weakened balcony collapsed in Kurawali town of Uttar Pradesh after a troop of monkeys reportedly jumped on the structure.

Police identified the deceased as Ram Kishan.

The incident occurred near Diwarai Gate in the old grain market area when Ram Kishan was walking through a narrow lane around 6 pm on Monday.

Balcony suddenly gave way

According to officials, the balcony of an old and dilapidated building collapsed unexpectedly after monkeys climbed onto it.

The falling debris struck Ram Kishan, causing severe injuries.

Locals rushed to help and he was immediately taken to a nearby community health centre.

Doctors later declared him dead.

Officials visit hospital

Neeraj Trivedi visited the hospital following the incident.

Authorities said the body was handed over to family members after relatives declined a post-mortem examination.

Lived alone, nephews performed rites

Family sources said Ram Kishan was unmarried and lived alone in the village.

His nephews performed the last rites later the same evening.

Concern over unsafe old structures

The incident has once again drawn attention to ageing and unsafe buildings in crowded market areas, especially where balconies and projections remain weakened over time.

Residents in many older towns have often raised concerns over structural safety, particularly during monkey activity, rain or vibration.

Officials may now review the condition of similar buildings in the area to prevent further tragedies
