8 Policemen Booked for Alleged Beating Death of Rape-Accused

Police Custody

Jaipur: Authorities reported that eight policemen, including a Station House Officer (SHO), have been implicated in the alleged fatal beating of a rape-accused individual in Jhunjhunu district. The incident occurred on May 29 within the jurisdiction of Mandrela police station. As a consequence, the SHO has been suspended.

The victim, identified as Gaurav Sharma from Kotputli, was apprehended in Jaipur on May 24 in connection with a rape case lodged at the Mandrela police station. Subsequently, he was remanded to police custody for five days by the court.

On May 29, the individual, approximately 30 years old, was transported to a hospital due to a deterioration in his health while in police custody. Medical professionals declared him deceased upon arrival at the hospital.

Additional Superintendent of Police Pushpendra Singh Rathore announced on Monday that following the family’s refusal to claim the body, demanding a murder investigation against the SHO and other implicated officers, a murder case has been registered against eight police personnel, including SHO Ravindra Kumar. The SHO has been suspended pending further investigation.

Rathore further stated that the body, held in a mortuary since the individual’s demise, has been released to the family following a postmortem examination, and police are actively investigating the incident.
