In a shocking yet remarkable incident, an 89-year-old woman displayed extraordinary courage after climbing down the exterior of a high-rise building when she accidentally locked herself inside her apartment.
A desperate attempt to escape
The incident occurred on April 1, when the elderly woman, who lived alone on the 27th floor, found herself trapped inside her bedroom with her phone left outside. With no way to call for help, she made the risky decision to climb out and descend using the narrow air conditioner railing.
A cleaner and a security guard below noticed her clinging to the building’s exterior around the 26th floor and immediately alerted authorities.
Rescue operation unfolds
Despite being urged to wait, the woman continued climbing down and eventually stopped at the 21st floor due to exhaustion. Firefighters, who had rushed to the scene, opted for a careful indoor rescue instead of risking further movement along the railing.
They secured her with safety ropes, provided water and a jacket, and cut a section of the railing to help her sit and stabilise.
Safe rescue without injuries
After allowing her to rest, firefighters used a stretcher as a makeshift bridge to safely bring her inside through a window on the 21st floor.
Remarkably, the woman did not suffer any physical injuries, though she was visibly shaken and fatigued.
Family expresses gratitude
Her family later arrived at the scene and thanked the rescue team for their swift response and careful handling of the situation.
A reminder of safety risks
The incident highlights the dangers faced by elderly individuals living alone, especially during emergencies. It also underscores the importance of safety measures, access to communication, and timely intervention.
While her courage is undeniable, authorities have urged the public to avoid taking such risks and to seek safer alternatives in similar situations
