The death of a 9-year-old girl in northeast Delhi’s Nehru Vihar has led to strong political reactions, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holding the BJP-led administration accountable for a breakdown in safety and governance.
The girl’s body was found inside a suitcase on Saturday. Based on preliminary medical findings, authorities suspect foul play. Police are continuing their investigation, and further confirmation is awaited.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform X to criticise the state of law and order in Delhi. “This heartbreaking incident has shaken the entire city. Under the so-called ‘four-engine’ governance by the BJP, how can such tragedies still occur?” he posted, urging Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take responsibility.
The term “four-engine government” is used by AAP to describe the BJP’s influence through the Centre, the Lieutenant Governor, the MCD, and Delhi Police—despite not leading the elected state government.
AAP leader and Delhi Assembly’s Leader of Opposition, Atishi, also raised concerns. “Who is responsible for this worsening security situation? Where are the key officials and leaders when such incidents happen?” she asked, demanding answers and immediate action.
No official response has yet been issued by the BJP.
