The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has clarified that while it is no longer formally aligned with the INDIA bloc, it has stepped forward to support the Opposition on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) issue in Parliament.
Sanjay Singh, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP, emphasized that the alliance with INDIA was strictly tied to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and the party has since pursued state elections independently
Despite this separation, AAP’s Sandeep Pathak participated in a joint press briefing with India bloc leaders to magnify demands for a Parliamentary debate on the SIR revision of Bihar’s voter rolls.
Singh underscored that AAP’s backing is limited to this specific issue—viewing SIR as a threat to democratic processes—not a return to full alliance. He reiterated that future coordination on national matters remains a possibility, dependent on the context.
The Opposition, including AAP, has united to condemn the voter roll revamp, accusing it of disenfranchising marginalized groups like Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities. They argue the exercise undermines democracy and called for its discussion in Parliament.
In essence, AAP maintains its independent stanceyet is willing to collaborate issue-wise, especially when democratic principles are at stake.
