A newborn baby boy who was found abandoned inside a cement bag in Gurugram’s DLF Phase IV has recovered after receiving intensive medical care, with doctors confirming that the infant is now out of danger.

The baby, estimated to have been only a few hours old at the time of discovery, was found by local residents on February 6 in a secluded area. Investigators said the infant was covered in sand when he was discovered, raising serious concerns about his survival.

Baby rushed to hospital

According to police officials from Sector 29 police station, officers immediately transported the child to Max Hospital after reaching the scene at around 10 am.

An FIR was registered under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years.

Police also began reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and collecting statements from witnesses in an effort to identify those responsible.

Doctors fought to save the child

Doctors at the hospital said the infant was in critical condition when he arrived.

Medical staff reported that the baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels were rapidly dropping, raising fears that he might not survive.

A team of four doctors and 12 nursing staff monitored the infant closely in the neonatal intensive care unit for nearly 48 hours.

“Initially, we feared the baby would not survive,” said Dr Devesh Tiwari from the hospital administration. “However, the medical team worked continuously to stabilise him.”

Recovery after intensive treatment

Doctors later confirmed that the infant responded well to treatment.

By the fifth day, the baby was stable enough to be shifted out of the intensive care unit. According to paediatric specialist Dr Sachin Jain, the child is now recovering normally.

“The baby appears healthy and currently shows no early signs of brain damage, which can sometimes occur in such critical cases,” he said.

Hospital officials added that the entire cost of the child’s treatment will be borne by the hospital, as no family member came forward during his hospital stay.

Investigation continues

Police said investigators identified the baby’s 22-year-old mother from Sushant Lok within a week through CCTV footage and witness accounts.

Following the infant’s discharge from hospital, he will remain under the care of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

Authorities said the committee will decide on the baby’s custody and any further legal action based on its recommendations.

Meanwhile, health department officials said the doctors and medical staff who helped save the child’s life will be honoured for their efforts.
