A 24-year-old air-conditioner technician lost his life after allegedly falling from the 10th floor of a residential building in Borivali West while on duty on Tuesday afternoon. Police have booked the owner and manager of the repair firm for negligence, citing lack of basic safety measures.

Technician falls during repair work

The deceased, Vivek Yadav, was a resident of Nalasopara East and had been working with the air-conditioning service firm Indocool for the past three years. According to police, he was deployed to Flat No. 1003 on the 10th floor of Crescent Heights building in IC Colony, Borivali West, for air-conditioner repair work.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm when Yadav reportedly lost his balance while repairing the unit and fell to the ground floor. He sustained severe head and leg injuries and lost consciousness immediately.

Rushed to hospital, declared dead

Yadav was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West, where doctors declared him dead on arrival, police said.

Colleague alleges lack of safety measures

In his statement to the police, Yadav’s colleague, Mohammad Hasam (18), alleged that there was no safety net installed outside the building and that the company had failed to provide basic safety equipment, including harnesses and protective gear, for high-rise repair work.

Based on preliminary findings, the police registered a case against Ajay Mishra (48), owner of Indocool, and Rakesh Yadav (30), the firm’s manager.

Case registered under BNS

The duo has been booked under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway to ascertain accountability and compliance with workplace safety norms.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by technicians working at heights and the urgent need for strict enforcement of occupational safety standards in residential maintenance work.
