A 13-year-old schoolgirl allegedly died by suicide at her residence here, with preliminary police findings indicating severe academic pressure and emotional withdrawal as contributing factors.
The incident came to light on Thursday morning when the girl’s mother went to wake her up and found the bedroom door locked from inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, the family looked through a window and discovered the child hanging from a ceiling fan. Police were immediately informed.
The body was later shifted for post-mortem examination.
Diary points to stress and isolation
During the investigation, police recovered a personal diary from the girl’s room. According to officers, the diary contained notes expressing anxiety over studies and confusion about preparing for an examination scheduled for Thursday.
In her writing, the student mentioned feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to begin studying. She also wrote about distancing herself from her friends in recent months, indicating growing emotional isolation.
A senior police officer said the diary entries suggest academic stress rather than any external pressure or suspicious circumstances.
Family recently relocated, probe ongoing
The girl and her family had moved to Gurugram from Lucknow in April last year. She was studying in Class 9 at a private school. Her mother works in a government department in Hardoi, while her father is employed with a private firm in Bengaluru.
Police said statements of the parents have been recorded and the child’s mobile phone has been examined. “So far, nothing suspicious has emerged. We are continuing our investigation,” said ASI Mahendra Singh.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns about mounting academic pressure on adolescents and the need for stronger emotional support systems at home and in schools.
