A 19-year-old BBA student allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Krishak Nagar area of Nishatpura on Friday, police said. The deceased has been identified as Vaishali Thakur.

According to the police, Vaishali was living with her family behind the Nishatpura police station. The incident came to light when family members found her unresponsive at home and alerted the authorities. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.

Family cites academic pressure

Preliminary questioning of family members revealed that Vaishali was under considerable stress related to her studies. Police said she was disappointed after receiving low marks in her first semester examinations, despite having expected better results.

“Initial inputs suggest that academic stress may have played a role. However, we are examining all aspects before arriving at any conclusion,” a police official said.

No foul play suspected so far

Police stated that there were no immediate signs of foul play. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the incident. Statements from family members and close acquaintances are being recorded as part of the probe.

Rising concern over student mental health

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns around academic pressure and mental health challenges faced by young students. Experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of emotional support systems, counselling, and open communication between students, families, and educational institutions.

Police officials said they are coordinating with the family and have advised counselling support. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal formalities are being completed.
