Chandrapur: A man arrested for the rape and murder of his girlfriend in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district allegedly died by suicide while in police custody, authorities reported on Sunday. The individual, Samadhan Koli, in his 20s, was discovered hanging in the restroom of Warora police station at approximately 8:30 am.
Koli had been detained for the alleged rape and murder of Arti Chandravanshi, 24, at her home in Anandwan on June 26. Following his arrest on June 27, he was remanded in police custody until July 4.
According to an official, Koli used a shoelace to hang himself from the door of the toilet. A departmental inquiry has been launched, and action will be taken against any police personnel found negligent. The case is set to be transferred to the CID following the completion of necessary formalities.
Chandravanshi’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds at her residence on June 26. Subsequent investigations revealed that Koli allegedly purchased knives online and attacked her while she was alone at home, leading to his arrest.
