On Friday, actor Allu Arjun was detained by authorities in connection with a stampede that occurred during the premiere of Pushpa-2 at Sandhya Theatre on December 4. The incident tragically led to the death of a 35-year-old woman, Revathi, with her son still receiving medical treatment.
A police team, led by an assistant commissioner, arrived at the actor’s residence to take him into custody. Allu Arjun was accompanied by his family members during the arrest and was escorted to the police vehicle before being transported to the station.
The stampede unfolded when Allu Arjun’s arrival at the theatre, along with his security personnel, triggered a chaotic rush of people trying to enter. Authorities have blamed poor crowd control and insufficient security measures as the cause of the disaster. Despite prior knowledge of the actor’s attendance, the theatre management failed to implement additional safety measures or designate separate entry and exit points for the actor’s team.
Earlier, three individuals, including a co-owner of the theatre, were arrested for their roles in the incident. The police filed a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Allu Arjun had previously filed a petition to have the FIR quashed and to halt further legal proceedings, including his arrest.
