After Delhi, Rajkot Airport Canopy Collapses in Heavy Rain

Rajkot Airport

Rajkot: A day after a canopy collapse at the Indira Gandhi Airport’s Terminal 1 which claimed one life and injured six, a similar incident happened at the passenger pickup and drop-off area at Rajkot Airport in Gujarat on Saturday.

The airport witnessed the collapse of its overhead canopy. The structure gave way under the pressure of relentless heavy rainfall, raising concerns about infrastructure resilience during extreme weather conditions.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the immediate aftermath of the collapse. Social media platforms soon buzzed with footage showing airport personnel assessing the damage at the site.

This event comes on the heels of a more tragic occurrence at Delhi’s Terminal 1, where a similar structural failure resulted in one fatality and left several others injured just a day prior.

Meteorological experts attribute the intense precipitation to an active cyclonic circulation hovering over south Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cautionary ‘yellow alert’ for the region, warning of potential heavy downpours on Saturday.
