Bhopal: A court-ordered medical board of doctors from AIIMS Delhi has concluded that former actor-model Twisha Sharma died by suicide through hanging, according to the forensic opinion submitted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The findings came as the agency filed a chargesheet in a special court in Bhopal.

Second postmortem rules out signs of assault

The second postmortem was ordered by the Madhya Pradesh High Court after Twisha’s family raised questions about the initial examination. An AIIMS Delhi team conducted the examination in Bhopal on May 24.

The five-member medical board concluded that the cause of death was asphyxia resulting from ante-mortem hanging. The forensic opinion identified a gymnastic belt fitted with a ring as the ligature material.

The board reportedly found no injuries of medico-legal significance suggesting physical assault or a struggle before her death.

CBI chargesheet names husband and mother-in-law

The AIIMS opinion was submitted to the CBI in a sealed cover on July 10. Following the report, the agency filed its chargesheet before a special court in Bhopal.

The CBI has accused Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, of subjecting her to alleged mental cruelty and abetting her suicide. The agency has also examined allegations relating to dowry harassment.

Family continues to question circumstances

Although the forensic board has concluded that the death was suicidal and found no evidence of physical assault, Twisha’s family has reportedly disputed the findings and maintained that she was murdered.

The CBI investigation and subsequent court proceedings will determine the legal responsibility of the accused. The medical opinion establishes the reported cause and manner of death but does not by itself determine whether any person was responsible for allegedly driving Twisha to suicide.

The case remains before the court, with the charges and allegations subject to due legal process.
