Thiruvananthapuram: Air India was forced to cancel its AI 2455 flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi on Sunday, June 22, 2025, after its incoming aircraft, AI 2454 from Delhi, reported a suspected bird hit upon landing at the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport.

The aircraft landed safely, but as a precaution, extended engineering checks were ordered, resulting in the outbound flight’s cancellation.

An Air India spokesperson issued a statement expressing regret: “The inconvenience caused to our passengers due to this unforeseen disruption is sincerely regretted. We are offering full refunds, complimentary rescheduling, and accommodation wherever needed. Alternative arrangements are being explored to transport passengers to Delhi.”

The airline reiterated its commitment to safety, saying that enhanced pre-flight safety checks and temporary service reductions have been introduced to ensure secure and stable operations.

Despite these steps, Air India acknowledged that unpredictable factors like air traffic congestion, bad weather, and operational issues may occasionally result in last-minute delays or cancellations.

The incident follows increased scrutiny of flight safety, particularly involving the airline’s Boeing 787 fleet, after the AI171 tragedy, with Air India CEO Campbell Wilson recently assuring the public of comprehensive checks and safe operations.
