New Delhi: The results of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 were announced yesterday, concluding a six-week, seven-phase voting process. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) emerged victorious with 292 seats, outpacing the Congress-led INDIA alliance, which secured 232 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to take the oath of office on Saturday evening, June 8.s
Prime Minister Modi celebrated the election results as a “victory of the world’s largest democracy,” signifying the continued support of the Indian electorate. Despite the BJP setting a high target of 370 seats (400+ with NDA allies), the party faced a strong challenge from the INDIA bloc, which performed exceptionally well, defying exit poll predictions and narrowing the BJP’s lead in critical states.
Today, both the NDA and INDIA bloc will conduct crucial meetings to discuss their next steps. These meetings aim to solidify their strategies and outline their legislative agendas for the upcoming parliamentary session. The BJP, while falling short of its ambitious goal, remains in a strong position to form the government and guide the nation’s policies.
Ofcourse, both former Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu led TDP and Bihar CM led JDU have stated that they would remain with the NDA, but what they want in return to support the government is likely to be discussed in today’s meeting. It is said that Naidu could be satisfied with promise of special state status to Andhra Pradesh and key portfolio’s in union government.
Sources failed to reveal what Nitish Kumar’s demands are.
