Ecommerce major Amazon India has announced the creation of over 1,50,000 temporary job opportunities across the country to strengthen its warehouse, logistics, and delivery operations ahead of the festive season rush.

These roles—both direct and indirect—will support Amazon’s fulfilment centres, sortation hubs, and last-mile delivery stations. The move is aimed at ensuring faster and more reliable deliveries as customer demand surges during the festival period.

“This festive season, we are committed to reaching every serviceable pin code in India with speed and efficiency. To achieve this, we have expanded our logistics and fulfilment network by adding over 1.5 lakh seasonal associates,” said Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations, India & Australia, Amazon.

The festive shopping season, driven by mega events like the Great Indian Festival (Amazon) and Big Billion Days (Flipkart), accounts for nearly half of annual gross merchandise value (GMV) for ecommerce players. To cope with the spike, Amazon has already onboarded a majority of these workers, compared to 1.1 lakh seasonal jobs created last year.

Importantly, many of these associates continue with Amazon even after the festive period, with a significant number rejoining year after year.

The hiring drive spans 400+ cities, from metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru to smaller towns including Ranchi, Jalgaon, and Anantnag, reflecting Amazon’s deepening focus on tier-II and tier-III markets.

Smaller towns are emerging as growth engines for ecommerce. During Amazon’s Prime Day in July, nearly 70% of new Prime sign-ups came from non-metros. Similarly, 60–70% of SME sellers on Amazon received most orders from smaller cities.

Industry-wide, sales trends confirm this shift. While metro regions saw a 15% YoY rise in orders, tier-II cities grew 21%, and tier-III towns surged 22%, according to Unicommerce data.
