Since moving to India in 2021, Kristen Fischer, an American influencer, has embraced many local customs. However, one cultural norm continues to puzzle her—the unique approach to dinner parties.
In a viral Instagram video, Kristen candidly shared her surprise at Indian dinner gatherings, where socializing takes precedence over dining. Accustomed to the American tradition of serving meals promptly, Kristen admitted feeling bewildered when food was served late into the night.
“In America, we eat first and then talk, but in India, the conversation happens before the meal,” she explained. Kristen recounted an instance where she left a party at 11 PM, only to find the dinner hadn’t been served. “They asked why I was leaving so early, but I thought it was already late! I’ve even come home from parties and made a sandwich because I couldn’t wait any longer,” she added with humor.
Living in Delhi with her family, Kristen has adapted to several Indian traditions but confessed that the late-night feasts still leave her baffled. “Wouldn’t the food get cold? Or wouldn’t you be stuck in the kitchen instead of enjoying your guests?” she questioned, highlighting the cultural contrast.
Despite the challenges, Kristen’s openness to learning and sharing her experiences has struck a chord with followers worldwide.
