Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to conduct a comprehensive assessment this Sunday regarding the country’s readiness to handle floods that annually impact various regions during the monsoon season.

Every year, extensive areas of Bihar, Assam, and other eastern states are submerged due to rising river levels caused by monsoon rains.

According to a senior official from the Home Ministry, “The Home Minister will preside over a high-level meeting to evaluate the overall preparedness for flood management across the nation.”

In addition to Bihar and Assam, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, and several other states face challenges such as landslides and other rain-related incidents during the monsoon.

Recent years have witnessed flood occurrences in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Jammu and Kashmir as well.

Presently, Assam is grappling with floods affecting approximately 3.90 lakh individuals across 19 districts, as reported by officials.

Authorities have recorded a total of 37 fatalities due to floods, landslides, and storms this year, with one individual still reported missing.
