Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has reported 12 Covid-19 cases and four deaths between June 26 and July 16, Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian said on Thursday, adding that all those who died had serious underlying medical conditions.

According to the Health Department, the deceased suffered from severe comorbidities, including hypertension, diabetes and renal ailments, which contributed to their deaths.

Four deaths linked to underlying illnesses

Veerapandian said three of the fatalities were reported from Kadapa district, while one death occurred in Kakinada.

The state’s first Covid-19 case of 2026 was detected in Kadapa on June 26. Between July 1 and July 16, another 11 infections were reported across Andhra Pradesh.

Kadapa records highest number of cases

Among the 12 cases reported:

  • Kadapa: 8 cases
  • Guntur: 2 cases
  • Visakhapatnam: 1 case
  • Kakinada: 1 case

Officials said the infections were reported from different mandals and did not constitute a cluster outbreak.

The Health Department noted that 67 Covid-19 tests were conducted between June 26 and July 15, with 11 testing positive. The 12th case was identified at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, in neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

Current patient status

According to the commissioner:

  • Three patients are under home isolation.
  • Two are undergoing hospital treatment.
  • Three have recovered and been discharged.

Health officials also said two individuals contracted the virus after coming into close contact with infected persons.

Covid-19 situation across India

Veerapandian noted that 339 Covid-19 cases were reported across India from July 1 onwards. Kerala recorded the highest number of infections with 115 cases, followed by Karnataka (64), Maharashtra (43), Tamil Nadu (39), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (18), Delhi (18) and Rajasthan (12), with smaller numbers reported from other states.

Health authorities have advised the public, particularly elderly people and those with underlying medical conditions, to remain vigilant, maintain hygiene and seek medical attention if Covid-19 symptoms develop.
