Andhra Pradesh is set to launch its first-ever seaplane service, marking a significant milestone in the state’s tourism and connectivity infrastructure. A trial run of the 10-seater seaplane is expected to take place between November 9 and 15, with the service operated by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL).
The seaplane will cover a unique route from the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada to Srisailam in the Nandyal district, offering passengers scenic views over the Krishna River and the lush Nallamalla forests. The service is anticipated to cut travel time dramatically for pilgrims visiting the famous Srisailam Shiva temple, reducing the journey from approximately seven hours by road to just 40 minutes by air.
This seaplane service aims to provide a more accessible and enjoyable travel option for pilgrims and tourists, allowing them to experience the beauty of the region from above. The service is also expected to boost tourism, making it easier for visitors to explore the picturesque landscapes around Srisailam.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been proactive in pushing for the swift launch of this initiative, with necessary permissions already secured. In addition to its tourism role, the seaplane service could also serve emergency or disaster response needs, given its ability to access remote areas near water.
If successful, this trial run could lead to expanded seaplane services connecting other tourist destinations in the state, further enhancing Andhra Pradesh’s reputation as a progressive and tourist-friendly region.
