Anantapur: A Class 10 student was critically injured after a man allegedly attacked her with a chainsaw inside a classroom at a Zilla Parishad High School in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district. The incident, which took place during school hours, triggered panic among students and staff, while another student also sustained injuries during the attack.

According to sources, the accused entered the school premises, walked into the girl’s classroom and attacked her with a chainsaw. The student suffered severe injuries to her face, head and neck and was left bleeding profusely.

The injured girl was immediately taken to Anantapur Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. There were reports that she might be shifted to Bengaluru for advanced medical care, although this information had not been independently verified by India Today at the time of publication.

The second student was injured after getting caught in the middle of the attack. No deaths have been reported. Police launched an investigation and arrested the accused within a few hours of the incident.

Chainsaw attack inside school triggers panic

The attack took place inside a government school when students were attending classes. The accused allegedly gained entry into the school premises and entered the classroom where the Class 10 student was present.

The use of a chainsaw in the assault left the girl with serious injuries, particularly to her face, head and neck. The incident caused panic among students and school employees, who were confronted with the aftermath of the attack.

The second student was also hurt while attempting to intervene or after being caught in the incident. Both injured students were taken for medical attention.

The attack has raised concerns about the safety of children inside educational institutions. Schools are expected to provide a secure environment for students, and the incident has prompted questions about how the accused managed to enter the premises and reach a classroom during school hours.

Police have arrested the accused and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack. Further details about the motive and the sequence of events are awaited.

Chandrababu Naidu speaks to survivor’s mother

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and said he was personally monitoring the injured girl’s recovery.

The Chief Minister spoke to officials to obtain updates on the student’s medical condition and the treatment being provided to her. He directed the medical team to accord the girl the highest priority and ensure that she received the best possible care.

Naidu also spoke to the girl’s mother over the phone. He offered his condolences and support to the family, assuring her that the government would extend all possible assistance during the difficult period.

He urged the mother to remain strong and said every effort would be made to save the student’s life. The Chief Minister also assured her that the accused would face strict legal action.

Naidu separately spoke to local MLA Paritala Sunitha about the medical assistance being provided to the injured girl. He also sought information about the second student’s condition and instructed officials to ensure that both children received appropriate treatment.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he was “deeply shaken and enraged” by the attack. He added that those who target young girls inside schools had no place in society.

“I am personally tracking her recovery and have directed the medical team to give her the highest priority care. I have ordered the police to hunt down the monster responsible and deliver the harshest legal punishment swiftly,” he wrote.

Pawan Kalyan and Nara Lokesh condemn attack

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also expressed deep concern over the incident. He spoke to the Anantapur District Collector to obtain details about the attack and the condition of the injured students.

Kalyan directed the police to ensure the accused was arrested immediately and that strict action was taken under the law. He also called for the best possible medical treatment for the girl and proper care for the second injured student.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured the victim’s family that the state government would extend all possible support. Condemning the attack inside a classroom, he said such acts of violence had no place in society.

Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh also expressed anguish over the incident, describing the assault as an inhuman act against a young girl in a place meant for learning and safety.

In his post on X, Lokesh said the Chief Minister had directed the police to take swift and stringent action against the accused and ensure that he was brought to justice.

“The safety and dignity of every girl and woman are paramount. Such acts of brutality will not be tolerated,” he said.

The statements from the Chief Minister and other senior leaders came as the injured students continued to receive medical attention.

YSRCP demands Nara Lokesh’s resignation

The incident triggered a political response, with the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) holding the TDP-led coalition government responsible for the attack and demanding the resignation of Nara Lokesh as Education Minister.

In a statement, the party said the assault on a Class 10 student at a government school in Rapthadu exposed what it described as the government’s failure to protect children.

The YSRCP also highlighted that another student was injured while trying to intervene. It demanded proper medical care for both students and support for their families.

The opposition party called for the immediate arrest of the accused and a fair investigation into the incident. It also questioned how an attacker could enter a government school and assault a student inside a classroom.

The party demanded that the government explain the circumstances that led to the attack and review safety arrangements in schools across Andhra Pradesh.

It further said the incident required political accountability and called on Nara Lokesh to step down from his position as Education Minister.

The YSRCP’s statement added to the political debate surrounding school safety and the government’s responsibility to protect students within educational institutions.

YS Sharmila seeks action and school security review

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president YS Sharmila also strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate action against the accused.

Sharmila said she was shocked by the chainsaw assault on the Class 10 student inside a government school in Rapthadu, Anantapur district. She described the incident as particularly disturbing because it took place inside a classroom, in front of other students.

She also raised concerns about the second student who was injured during the attack.

“If our daughters are not safe even inside their classrooms, what assurance can this government offer to parents? Schools are meant to be places of learning, safety and hope; not spaces where innocent children are exposed to such brutal violence,” she said.

Sharmila demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, the strictest possible legal action and the best available medical treatment for both injured students.

She also called for a comprehensive review of security arrangements in schools across the state, arguing that the incident had raised serious questions about the safety of children on school premises.

“Our daughters deserve justice. The culprit must face the harshest punishment under law. The safety of our daughters cannot be reduced to empty assurances and statements. The government must act, and act decisively!” she said.

Accused arrested, investigation underway

Police registered a case and began investigating the attack soon after receiving information about the incident. The accused was traced and arrested within hours, according to the report.

Investigators are expected to examine how the man entered the school, what led to the assault and the circumstances in which the second student was injured. Further details about the accused and the possible motive have not been provided in the source report.

The immediate priority remains the treatment and recovery of the two injured students. The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure that they receive appropriate medical attention, while the police investigation continues.

The incident has also renewed calls for schools to review access control and safety arrangements so that students can attend classes without fear of violence. The investigation and the medical updates are awaited.
