Another ceasefire violation in northern Kashmir

Srinagar: A day after five Indian soldiers were killed in Poonch, another ceasefire violations have been reported from the Uri sector in northern Kashmir where the two sides exchanged fire.

A senior Indian army officer in northern Kashmir said two Pakistani soldiers have been wounded or possibly killed in an exchange of machinegun firing, according to reports.
 
A Pakistani military official claimed “unprovoked Indian firing” for injuries to the Pakistanis on Tuesday afternoon and said that senior army commanders on both sides had spoken over a special hotline.


 
Developments which look place since yesterday after five Indian soldiers were allegedly killed by Pakistani army.
 
1. Two Pakistani soldiers have been wounded in an exchange of fire with Indian troops at the LoC in the latest flare-up of tensions between the two neighbours.
 
2. Pakistan has proposed a high-level meeting with Indian officials to restart the process as the tit-for-tat violence is threatening to derail the resumption of peace talks between the two countries.
 
3. Opposition BJP and UPA’s outside supporter Samajwadi Party on Wednesday stalled Parliament over contradictory statements by Defence Minister A K Antony and Army over the killing of Indian soldiers.
 
4. BJP demanded that Antony should apologise for his statement
 
5. Leader of the opposition Sushma Swaraj slammed AK Antony for giving Pakistan army a “clean chit” in the attack.
 
6. BJP leader Yashwant Sihna moved a breach of privilege notice against Defence Minister A K Antony, accusing him of misleading Parliament on the killing of five Indian jawans.
 
7. Army Chief General Bikram Singh arrived in Jammu and paid tributes to the five soldiers, before reviewing the situation on the LoC and the International Border at a high level meeting at headquarters of Army’s 16 Corps at Nagrota.
 
8. The Congress party, which leads the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, has said that talks with Pakistan will go on as scheduled. Party spokesperson PC Chacko said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s proposed meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in September on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly was still on.
 
9. Pakistan has rejected the allegation of ceasefire violation saying there had been no exchange of fire along the heavily militarised LoC.
 
10. Top military commanders of Pakistan and India Wednesday spoke on hotline to reduce tensions along the LoC.
