A heartfelt marriage proposal by a newly commissioned Indian Army Aviation officer has sparked a nationwide debate over military protocol, personal freedom and the role of social media in uniformed services.

Captain Bharat Bhardwaj proposed to his long-time partner shortly after completing his passing-out parade at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik, Maharashtra. The moment, captured on video, quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Proposal wins hearts, draws criticism

The video shows Captain Bhardwaj kneeling on the tarmac and presenting a ring to his partner moments after achieving a major milestone in his military career.

Many social media users praised the gesture as a touching celebration of love and commitment. However, others questioned whether a serving military officer should engage in such a public display while in uniform and in proximity to military assets.

Critics argued that military settings should remain focused on professional conduct and ceremonial traditions.

Veterans defend young officer

Several retired senior military officers came out in support of the young captain.

Among them was KJS Dhillon, who defended the officer’s actions and questioned why expressing personal emotions should attract criticism.

His remark, “Youngster nahi karega, toh kaun karega?” gained widespread attention online and became a rallying point for supporters of the officer.

Veterans argued that soldiers who dedicate their lives to national service should also be allowed to celebrate important personal moments.

Security concerns dismissed

Some social media users raised concerns that military equipment visible in the background of the video could pose security risks.

Retired defence personnel, however, dismissed such claims, noting that similar aircraft and equipment are frequently displayed during public exhibitions, recruitment events and military outreach programmes.

They maintained that no sensitive information appeared to have been disclosed.
