New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel sent an ambulance on Saturday to transport Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to a hospital for medical tests, following his claim of potential serious health issues.

On May 26, Kejriwal appealed to the Supreme Court for a seven-day extension of his interim bail, citing the need for medical tests, including a PET-CT scan. In his plea, Kejriwal reported losing 7 kg in jail and having “too high” ketone levels, which might indicate a severe health condition.

However, the police intercepted the ambulance and Goel on their way to the Chief Minister’s official residence in Civil Lines.

On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal 21-day interim bail. This bail, related to a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy scam, was intended to allow him to campaign for the Lok Sabha polls. Kejriwal, also the AAP national convenor, was instructed to surrender on June 2.

Goel accused Kejriwal of “creating drama” to garner public sympathy by exaggerating his health concerns. “This ambulance was ready to take Kejriwal to any hospital where all necessary tests could be conducted within two hours,” Goel told reporters. The former Union minister urged Kejriwal to stop the “drama” and accompany him for the tests if he was genuinely worried about his health.

At a press conference, AAP leader and minister Atishi stated that Kejriwal’s high ketone levels could indicate kidney problems or even cancer, according to doctors.

A Delhi court is expected to review Kejriwal’s application for interim bail later today. The Supreme Court registry recently declined an urgent listing of Kejriwal’s plea for a bail extension, noting that he had the liberty to seek regular bail from the trial court.

Kejriwal’s request for extending his interim bail was based on the need to undergo several medical tests, including a PET-CT scan, due to “sudden and unexplained weight loss coupled with high ketone levels.” These symptoms, he argued, could be indicative of kidney issues, severe cardiac ailments, or even cancer.
