Assam: Man Held for Killing and Burying Wife, Body Found After 13 Days

Guwahati : A 60-year-old man was arrested in Assam’s Chirang district on charges of murdering his wife and concealing her body, local police confirmed on Friday.

The accused has been identified as Gaurau Narzary, a resident of Janata Bazaar near the Assam-Bhutan border in Chirang district.

According to Chirang district SP Pranjit Bora, “The incident occurred approximately 13 days ago; however, the victim’s body was discovered on Thursday following the filing of a complaint. The suspect has been taken into custody.”

The deceased has been recognized as Haitu Narzary, aged 50, with her brother having reported her disappearance to the local police station.

“Based on initial investigations, it is suspected that the accused may have attacked his wife in a fit of anger. Subsequently, he allegedly buried her remains in an attempt to conceal the crime,” stated the officer.

The body has been transferred to the Barpeta Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination as the body was decomposed and post-mortem was not possible in the local hospital, said the officer.
