While many people look forward to retirement in their 50s, a woman from Gujarat chose to chase one of India’s toughest professional qualifications and turned it into an unforgettable gift for her father.

At the age of 52, Anita Kapdi achieved her dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA), fulfilling a promise she had made years earlier to present the qualification to her father on his 75th birthday.

Her inspiring journey has captured widespread attention and serves as a reminder that age is no barrier to learning and achievement.

A teacher who never gave up on her dream

For 23 years, Anita worked as an art and craft teacher while balancing family responsibilities and professional commitments.

Despite her teaching career, she always had a strong interest in mathematics and accountancy. Determined to continue learning, she completed her MCom and B.Ed while working full-time.

Although life moved forward, her dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant never faded.

A promise made to her father

The motivation behind Anita’s pursuit was deeply personal.

Her father, a company secretary by profession, had been a constant source of inspiration. Anita decided that earning a CA qualification would be the perfect gift for his 75th birthday.

At around 48 years of age, she enrolled in the CA programme through the ICAI Direct Entry route and began preparing for the challenging examinations.

Remarkably, she cleared the Intermediate examination without attending coaching classes.

Overcoming personal challenges

The journey was far from easy. While preparing for her final examinations, Anita was simultaneously managing her daughter’s wedding preparations and supporting her son through board examinations.

Just ten days before her CA final exams, tragedy struck when she lost her mother-in-law.

Despite the emotional setback, Anita chose to continue and appeared for the examinations with determination and focus.

Dream turns into reality

Her perseverance paid off when she successfully cleared the CA final examination and became a Chartered Accountant at 52.

Today, Anita has begun her professional journey as a practising Chartered Accountant and has also gained experience working with reputed firms.

More than a professional milestone, her achievement stands as a touching tribute to her father and a powerful reminder that dreams do not come with an expiry date.
