A 41-year-old government ayurvedic doctor was arrested on Monday on charges of attempt to murder after allegedly trying to run over a Swiggy delivery partner multiple times with his SUV in Hayatpur village, police said.
The accused, Naveen, a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) doctor, is posted at a primary health centre in Daulatabad. He was arrested after CCTV footage surfaced showing him repeatedly ramming his black Scorpio SUV into the delivery rider late on Sunday night.
Incident caught on CCTV
The incident occurred around 10.30 pm near a Swiggy warehouse in Hayatpur. The victim, Tinku (43), a resident of Chandpur Ki Dani in Rewari district, was standing outside the warehouse with his motorcycle when Naveen allegedly drove his SUV towards him with the siren blaring.
According to police, the CCTV footage shows the SUV hitting Tinku’s motorcycle, throwing him onto the road. The accused is then seen reversing and accelerating repeatedly, allegedly running over the delivery rider three to four times before fleeing the scene. Other delivery partners are seen standing at a distance and attempting to record the incident on their mobile phones.
Dispute over parking
A senior police officer said the accused had been nursing a grievance against the delivery partner. “Naveen claimed that the victim often parked his motorcycle in a narrow lane near his residence in Bhagat Singh Colony, causing inconvenience. He carried this resentment for some time and attacked the victim in a fit of rage,” the officer said.
During the assault, Naveen allegedly threatened to kill Tinku, police added.
Victim hospitalised, accused arrested
The injured delivery rider was first taken to a government hospital in Sector 10 and later referred to a private hospital in Rewari, where he is undergoing treatment.
Based on Tinku’s statement, police registered a case at Sector 10 police station under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A police team from the Sector 93 police post arrested Naveen and seized the SUV used in the attack.
Police said further investigation is underway.
