On Saturday, at least 46 people were killed in a massive fire that broke out at a shopping mall in Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow and condolences to the victims of the incident.

Prime Minister Modi also sent his best wishes for a quick recovery to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a letter.

On Thursday night, a terrible fire left over 20 people seriously injured and at least 46 dead. Seventy people were rescued by firefighters from the rooftop and various floors of the seven-story Green Cozy Cottage, including forty-two who were unconscious.

Around 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, the “Kacchi Bhai” restaurant on the first floor of the Green Cozy Cottage building caught fire. The fire quickly spread to the upper floors, which housed more restaurants and a clothing store.

“Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi sent a letter to Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressing his sincere condolences for the deaths caused by the fire at the Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall in Dhaka on February 29, 2024. Additionally, he wished the injured people a quick recovery,” the Indian mission in Bangladesh wrote on X.

In the letter, PM Modi further affirmed that as India stands with Bangladesh in this hour of grief, his thoughts and prayers remain with the friendly people of Bangladesh, the Dhaka Tribune newspaper reported.

A case was filed by police on Friday night and three persons have been arrested.
