Bank customers across India can visit branches today as Saturday, September 19, is a working day for banks. The date falls on the third Saturday of the month, when regular banking operations are generally available.
Third Saturday is a working day
Under the standard banking holiday schedule, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. The first, third and fifth Saturdays are generally working days.
Major lenders, including State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Punjab National Bank (PNB), are therefore expected to operate their branches today, subject to state-specific holidays and local branch notifications.
Customers can approach branches for services such as cash transactions, account-related work and other in-person banking requirements during normal operating hours.
Bank holidays can vary by state
Although September 19 is a working Saturday under the regular schedule, customers should remember that banking holidays can differ between states because of regional festivals and locally declared holidays.
In Uttar Pradesh, for example, September 19 is not listed as a bank holiday in the September 2026 schedule. The second Saturday was September 12, while the fourth Saturday will fall on September 26.
Customers planning an important branch visit are advised to confirm the operating status and timings with their local branch or check the Reserve Bank of India’s state-wise holiday calendar.
Digital services remain available
Even when branches are closed, customers can continue using digital banking facilities. UPI, mobile and internet banking, along with ATM services, generally remain available around the clock.
These services allow customers to make payments, transfer funds and complete several routine banking transactions without visiting a branch.
