A shocking incident near Cuttack Railway Station has raised fresh concerns over passenger safety after a mentally distressed man was allegedly stabbed inside a moving train on Sunday.
Dispute over alms turns violent
According to reports, the survivor, identified as Manoj, was collecting alms aboard a Balasore–Bhubaneswar MEMU train when the accused, Ramesh Pashwan, confronted him and demanded the money he had gathered.
When Manoj refused to hand over the alms, an argument ensued, escalating quickly into violence. The accused allegedly attacked him with a knife, leaving him seriously injured.
Passengers act swiftly
Hearing Manoj’s cries for help, fellow passengers intervened and managed to overpower the आरोपी. They then handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) upon arrival near Cuttack Railway Station.
Meanwhile, the injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment.
Accused arrested, case registered
Police confirmed that the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial remand. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to establish all details surrounding the incident.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding passenger safety on trains, especially involving vulnerable individuals such as beggars and mentally distressed persons who often travel without protection.
