In a significant development in Indian television, iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan is reportedly set to step away from his role as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), a position he has held for over 20 years. The 81-year-old legend has been the cornerstone of the popular quiz show since it launched in 2000, except for Season 3, which featured Shah Rukh Khan as the presenter.

Although Sony TV has not officially confirmed the news, industry chatter suggests that Salman Khan is in serious talks with the show’s producers to take over hosting duties for Season 17.

According to a Bollywood Hungama report, the actor—renowned for his commanding presence on reality TV through Bigg Boss—is being considered to inject new life into the show. Sources claim Salman’s massive popularity, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, could be a game-changer for the show’s reach.

Interestingly, just last month, a teaser featuring Amitabh Bachchan was released on April 4, showing him in a humorous role as a patient. The promo hinted at the upcoming season and urged fans to register via SonyLIV, creating confusion amid the recent exit rumours.

If the transition does occur, fans will be watching closely. While Bachchan’s deep voice and dignified style have become synonymous with KBC, Salman Khan’s charm and relatability could appeal to a younger, broader audience.

Season 17 is slated for an August 2025 premiere, pending an official statement from the network.
