A police constable in Bihar has been removed from his post after a video of him dancing in uniform at the request of MLA Tej Pratap Yadav went viral. The incident, which occurred during a Holi celebration in a public space, showed Constable Deepak Kumar performing a dance at the RJD leader’s direction.
In the video, Tej Pratap can be heard telling the constable to “shake a leg” to a song, threatening suspension if he refused. “Ay sipahi, ek gaana bajayenge uspe tumko thumka lagana hai” (I will play a song, and you have to shake a leg), the MLA instructed, adding that it was a Holi celebration and the constable shouldn’t take it badly.
The video quickly spread on social media, drawing widespread criticism from various groups. Following the backlash, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Patna issued a press release confirming that Deepak Kumar had been removed from his duties as Tej Pratap’s bodyguard. The constable was reassigned to the police line, and another officer has been appointed in his place.
This incident highlights the delicate balance between tradition and professionalism, sparking debate over the conduct of police personnel during public events.
