Patna: A 20-year-old from Bihar has drawn attention online after sharing how he went from learning digital skills at 14 to earning thousands of dollars a month through freelancing and Web3-related work, eventually saying he was able to financially support and “retire” his mother.

His journey began with a computer and a skill

The youngster, who shared his story on Reddit, said he grew up in a lower-middle-class family and was raised by his mother after his parents separated when he was five.

At 14, he began teaching himself design and editing skills online and started creating graphics for eSports teams. His early freelancing work was disrupted after PUBG was banned in India, leaving him uncertain about whether to continue freelancing or pursue higher education.

After completing Class 12, he chose not to pursue a college degree. Instead, he moved to Noida after receiving an opportunity with a Web3 marketing agency, where he initially earned ₹15,000 a month.

The experience proved difficult, and he eventually returned to Bihar. He later rebuilt his freelance career by offering design services and developing contacts in the Web3 sector.

From ₹200 a month to thousands of dollars

According to his account, his earnings gradually increased from around $200–$300 a month to approximately $2,000 a month. He says he earned about ₹12 lakh during FY 2025–26 and has averaged around $4,000 a month in the current financial year. Last month, he claimed his income reached approximately $6,500.

The young freelancer said he used his earnings to build emergency savings, buy a MacBook Pro and provide greater financial security for his mother. He also said he buys her gold periodically and is saving towards owning a home.

While his story has inspired online users, his experience also reflects the uncertainty and personal struggles that can accompany an unconventional career. He said he continues to deal with isolation and has faced difficult periods along the way.

For him, the journey is ultimately about persistence, learning digital skills and creating opportunities outside traditional career paths.
