In a successful operation, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested V. Gunasekaran, a 49-year-old bill collector from Attur, for accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 at the Narasingapuram municipal office in Salem district. Gunasekaran was involved in a bribery case with R. Ganapathy, a 45-year-old resident of Narasingapuram, who had recently purchased a house in the area.

Bribe Demand and Sting Operation

Ganapathy had approached the municipal office to update his name in the house and water tax records. Gunasekaran reportedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to process the records. Dissatisfied with this demand, Ganapathy filed a complaint with the DVAC on Tuesday evening, which triggered a planned sting operation the following day.

On Wednesday, as part of the operation, Ganapathy handed over Rs 25,000 in chemical-coated currency notes to Gunasekaran as an advance. DVAC officials caught Gunasekaran red-handed after he accepted the bribe. He was promptly arrested and remanded into judicial custody.

This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the DVAC to combat corruption and enforce accountability among public officials.
