A 41-year-old woman lost her life in a tragic farm accident on her birthday after her scarf and hair were pulled into a crop thresher machine at Kurungwadi village in Bhor taluka on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Shubhangi Raut, a resident of Kurungwadi. Police have registered an accidental death case and initiated an inquiry.
Accident during threshing work
According to the Rajgad Police, Raut had travelled from Pune with her family to their agricultural land in Kurungwadi for threshing red lentils and peas.
An officer stated that she was standing near the thresher machine when her scarf and hair became entangled in the rotating equipment. Relatives and farm workers present at the site immediately rushed to her aid and shifted her to a nearby hospital.
Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Family in grief, probe under way
Raut is survived by her husband, a son and a daughter. The sudden loss on what was meant to be a day of celebration has left the family and village in deep shock.
Police officials confirmed that investigations are continuing to ascertain all circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have also reiterated the need for extreme caution while operating agricultural machinery, particularly during harvesting and threshing seasons.
The incident once again underscores the risks associated with heavy farm equipment and the importance of safety awareness in rural workplaces.
