New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a major reshuffle of its national office-bearers, with party president Nitin Nabin appointing new leaders to several key organisational positions.

According to a press release issued by the BJP Central Office on August 17, the appointments have come into effect immediately. The new organisational team includes 13 national vice-presidents, national general secretaries, secretaries, office-bearers, morcha presidents and leaders handling media and social media responsibilities.

One of the most significant appointments is that of former Union minister Smriti Irani as national general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh, a politically crucial state scheduled to go to the polls in early 2027.

Smriti Irani gets Uttar Pradesh responsibility

Smriti Irani has been included among the BJP’s national general secretaries and has been assigned organisational responsibility for Uttar Pradesh.

The appointment comes ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and gives Irani a key role in one of the BJP’s most strategically important states.

BL Santhosh will continue as the BJP’s National General Secretary (Organisation).

The organisational leadership will also include Shivprakash from Mumbai and Saudan Singh from Chandigarh as National Joint General Secretaries (Organisation).

The continuation of Santhosh in the key organisational post ensures continuity in the party’s central organisational structure while the wider reshuffle brings several new faces and responsibilities.

The organisation secretary’s role is considered important in coordinating the party’s organisational machinery and maintaining communication between the central leadership and state units.

The BJP has also appointed 16 National Secretaries.

BJP prepares for upcoming political challenges

The reshuffle comes at a significant time for the BJP, with several state elections and organisational challenges ahead.

Smriti Irani’s appointment to handle Uttar Pradesh is particularly notable because of the state’s political importance and the upcoming Assembly election.

The broader list also reflects an attempt to strengthen organisational structures across states and specialised wings of the party.

The BJP’s new national team brings together experienced leaders, former ministers, state-level figures and organisational functionaries across a wide geographical spread. With the appointments taking effect immediately, the new office-bearers are expected to begin their respective organisational responsibilities without delay.

The press release announcing the changes was signed by Arun Singh, BJP National General Secretary and Office In-charge.
