Kolkata: A shocking incident has been reported from West Bengal, where a female BJP worker was allegedly pushed off a terrace after she objected to the alleged illegal occupation of her land for constructing a local party office. Police said they have begun an inquiry, while the BJP accused local miscreants of attempting to silence her for resisting encroachment.
Allegations of assault over land dispute
According to preliminary reports, the woman had been protesting for days against the alleged encroachment of her land. On Thursday, tensions escalated when a group of individuals confronted her on the terrace of her house. The BJP has claimed that during the altercation, she was pushed off the terrace, sustaining serious injuries.
Local residents said the victim had repeatedly complained that her land was being forcibly taken over for constructing an office of a rival political group. However, these claims have not yet been independently verified by authorities.
Police initiate inquiry
Police stated that they received information about the incident and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Officials confirmed that a case has been registered and statements are being recorded.
“We are investigating the nature of the fall, the motive behind the incident, and the people involved,” a senior officer said, adding that both sides have levelled allegations.
Political sparring intensifies
The BJP condemned the incident, calling it a “brutal attack on a woman defending her own land”. Party leaders demanded strict action and accused local political opponents of targeted violence.
The ruling party in the state has denied involvement, calling the accusations politically motivated and urging police to conduct an impartial probe.
Violence over land disputes remains a concern
The incident has once again brought attention to the recurring clashes and land-related disputes in several West Bengal districts. Political parties have accused each other of using coercion to assert territorial influence, particularly during local organisational expansions.
Case continues
Police said CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and land records are being examined. Further details are expected once the victim’s condition stabilises and she is able to give a statement.
The investigation is ongoing.
