Lucknow: An IndiGo flight bound for Delhi was delayed on Friday after a bomb threat triggered a major security response shortly before its scheduled departure from Lucknow airport. Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax, but the aircraft remained grounded while mandatory security checks were completed.
The flight, carrying around 180 passengers, was scheduled to depart from Lucknow for Delhi at 10.45 am. However, operations were halted after crew members received information about a possible bomb threat on board the aircraft.
Security alert issued before take-off
According to airport sources, the crew of the Delhi-bound flight received information regarding a potential bomb threat shortly before departure. As a precautionary measure, the aircraft was stopped at the apron and prevented from proceeding for take-off.
Security agencies immediately initiated standard emergency protocols and began a detailed inspection of the aircraft and surrounding areas.
Passengers remained on hold while authorities conducted the necessary checks to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
Tissue paper note sparks panic
The security scare reportedly began after a tissue paper bearing the word “bomb” was discovered inside one of the aircraft’s lavatories.
The note prompted airport authorities and security agencies to launch a comprehensive search operation. Bomb disposal squads and security personnel thoroughly examined the aircraft in accordance with established aviation security procedures.
The discovery triggered concern among passengers and airport staff, leading to an immediate security response.
No explosive substance found
Following an extensive inspection, officials did not find any explosive device or harmful substance on the aircraft.
Authorities subsequently determined that the threat was a hoax. Despite the all-clear, the aircraft remained grounded until all required security formalities and clearances were completed.
Officials stated that no suspicious object or material was recovered during the search operation.
IndiGo issues statement
In a statement, IndiGo confirmed that a security threat had been reported shortly before the scheduled departure of flight 6E 2111 from Lucknow to Delhi on June 12.
The airline said it immediately informed the relevant authorities and fully cooperated with security agencies carrying out the investigation and inspection.
IndiGo added that the aircraft would resume its journey only after obtaining all necessary security clearances. The airline also apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said refreshments and timely updates were being provided during the delay.
The carrier reiterated that passenger safety, crew security and aircraft protection remain its highest priorities.
Investigation and legal procedures underway
Authorities have begun further inquiries into the incident to identify the individual responsible for the hoax threat. Aviation security agencies take such threats seriously, as even false alarms can result in significant operational disruptions and security expenditures.
Officials indicated that legal action could be initiated against those found responsible for creating panic and disrupting airline operations.
The incident also highlights the strict security protocols followed by airports and airlines whenever a threat is reported, regardless of its eventual authenticity.
Conclusion
The Lucknow-Delhi IndiGo flight was delayed after a bomb threat note found inside the aircraft triggered a full-scale security response. Although authorities later confirmed the threat was a hoax and no explosive material was found, the aircraft remained grounded until all mandatory safety inspections were completed. The incident underscores the importance of strict aviation security measures and the serious consequences of false threats.
