A cross-border legal dispute involving a leading European engineering contractor has begun to ripple through India, after Bombay High Court admitted proceedings connected to the enforcement of a multi-billion-dollar foreign court ruling against Tecnimont, a prominent Italian company.
The action was filed by Russian EuroChem, following a Russian court decision ordering Tecnimont and affiliated companies within Italy-based MAIRE Group to pay more than $2.2 billion. EuroChem is now seeking recognition of that judgment in India and has asked the court to consider measures that could extend to Tecnimont-related assets located there.
In India, Tecnimont is associated with major refinery modernisation programmes, chemical production facilities and emerging low-carbon energy initiatives.
The Bombay High Court is expected to review the case on its merits in January 2026, with the proceedings likely to be watched closely by Asia’s infrastructure, energy and investment communities.
While there’s no immediate risk for major Indian projects the case in High Court is a threat for Tecnimont assets in the country.
