A bone marrow compatibility test conducted for a blood cancer patient in Gujarat’s Morbi has led to a police investigation into an alleged rape dating back five years. The case emerged after the patient’s son was found not to be a compatible donor, prompting questions about his biological parentage.

Medical test raises questions about paternity

According to The Indian Express, the patient’s son underwent testing to determine whether he could donate bone marrow to his father. The results reportedly showed that the two were not biologically related.

Following the finding, the patient’s wife approached police and alleged that she had been sexually assaulted in 2020 by the husband of a former Morbi Nagarpalika councillor. She reportedly claimed that the alleged assault resulted in the birth of the child. Police have registered an investigation based on her complaint.

The woman had reportedly known the accused through a boutique-related interaction. She alleged that he had initially provided financial assistance but later demanded the money back, leading to further interactions between them, according to the report. The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault are now being examined by investigators.

Police to pursue DNA testing

Police are examining the allegations and are expected to seek court permission for DNA testing to establish the child’s biological parentage. Further medical and forensic examination will form part of the investigation.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the accused have not been established in court.

The unusual sequence of events has highlighted how medical investigations undertaken for one health-related purpose can sometimes lead to the discovery of previously unknown family and legal circumstances.
