A shocking yet inspiring CCTV video from Punjab has gone viral, showing two women displaying remarkable courage while thwarting a snatching attempt, even as the attackers threatened them with a sharp weapon. The incident, captured on a nearby surveillance camera, has sparked widespread discussion on women’s safety and public vigilance.
What happened on the road
The incident took place on Friday evening around 6.30 pm. According to police sources and CCTV footage, the two women were riding an Activa scooter when they were targeted by bike-borne snatchers.
The video shows one of the attackers riding as a pillion passenger, who suddenly leaned forward and attempted to snatch a crossbody bag worn by one of the women. The sudden force caused the bag to partially detach from one side, momentarily throwing the rider off balance.
Despite the risk of falling, the woman held on to the bag, preventing the snatcher from escaping with it.
Threat with sharp weapon caught on CCTV
As the snatching attempt failed, the situation escalated. The CCTV footage shows the attacker getting off the bike and brandishing a curved sharp weapon, believed to be a sword, in an attempt to threaten and intimidate the women.
One of the women was seen moving away from the scooter, while the other stood her ground, trying to protect herself. Their resistance and alertness appeared to catch the attackers off guard, leaving them with no option but to flee the spot empty-handed.
Police begin investigation
Police officials said they are closely examining the CCTV footage to identify the suspects and trace their escape route.
“The attackers fled immediately after the failed snatching attempt. We are analysing footage from nearby cameras and questioning locals,” a police officer said.
So far, no arrests have been made, but police assured that efforts are underway to locate the accused at the earliest.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about street crime and women’s safety, especially during evening hours. At the same time, many on social media have praised the women for their presence of mind and bravery, saying their quick reaction prevented a serious crime.
