In a shocking act of targeted violence, CCTV footage from Patna’s Paras Hospital captured five individuals calmly walking into the premises and entering the ICU, where undertrial gangster Chandan Mishra was admitted for medical treatment. Leading the group was Tauseef Badshah, unmasked and holding a pistol. Within seconds, Chandan was shot dead.
Chandan, facing 24 criminal cases including multiple murder charges, was on parole and under police watch when the assailants carried out the attack on Thursday morning. Despite security, the group accessed the ICU without resistance, fired shots, and fled amid the confusion. By 8 a.m., surveillance footage began circulating online, prompting immediate identification of the attackers.
Police reports indicate that Tauseef, hailing from Phulwari Sharif in Patna and educated at Saint Karen’s School, has a prior record under the Arms Act and had recently become involved in contract killings. The murder is suspected to be part of a long-standing rivalry between Chandan and another gangster, Sheru, once his ally in Bhagalpur jail.
Following the killing, images showed the attackers celebrating, which added to public outrage.
The incident has triggered political criticism. Tejashwi Yadav questioned public safety in Bihar, while Pappu Yadav demanded President’s Rule, alleging a breakdown in law and order and political shielding of criminals.
Police have detained six suspects from Patna and Buxar and intensified searches at known gang locations linked to Sheru.
