Prayagraj: A wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj has captured widespread attention after the bride arrived at the groom’s home with a full wedding procession, reversing a centuries-old custom. The bride, Tanu from Kidganj, led a vibrant “reverse baraat” to her groom Rajat’s residence in Mutthiganj on November 26, drawing huge crowds and praise for challenging traditional gender roles.

A father’s wish becomes reality

The celebration was the fulfilment of a long-standing dream of Tanu’s father, Rajesh Jaiswal, who has five daughters and always wanted their weddings to be celebrated with the same grandeur usually reserved for a son’s marriage.
To mark the occasion, the family printed unique invitation cards titled “Ladki Ki Baraat.” In another symbolic departure from custom, the bride’s relatives performed aarti and bid farewell to the procession—rituals traditionally done by the groom’s family.

A colourful procession draws crowds

Tanu travelled nearly two kilometres seated in a beautifully decorated traditional carriage, leading the joyous procession. DJ music, dancing, lights, and lively celebrations turned the streets festive as residents gathered to witness the rare sight.
Videos showed people cheering as the procession passed, turning the event into a citywide attraction.

Groom’s family welcomes the bride

Rajat’s family welcomed the bride with warmth and traditional rituals upon her arrival. The ceremony has since gone viral on social media, with many praising the couple and their families for embracing equality and redefining wedding traditions through a joyful, progressive celebration.
