In a dramatic twist in Thiruvananthapuram, a 30-year-old bride from Ernakulam was arrested just two hours before her 14th marriage attempt, triggering a police probe into what appears to be a long-running matrimonial fraud.

Reshma Chandrasekharan, a native of Kanjiramattom and mother to a two-year-old, was set to wed Aneesh C, a panchayat ward member from Parandodu. Acting on his tip, Aryanad police intervened after Aneesh discovered a wedding card for a different man and suspicious documents in her bag.

Police have now formed a special team to investigate her background and the real number of marriages she may have contracted. Officials will soon file a custody plea to interrogate her directly.

Preliminary findings reveal Reshma was an academically bright student with a Sanskrit post-graduation from CMS College, Kottayam. Her first marriage reportedly occurred in 2014 while she was still a student. By 2022, she became pregnant in a relationship with a Valakom-based man, with whom her mother currently resides—unaware of her daughter’s marital history.

During the latest deception, Reshma allegedly told Aneesh she was adopted and estranged from her mother, winning his sympathy. Aneesh, unaware of her past, agreed to marry her legally.

He spent ₹7.5 lakh on wedding arrangements and feels fortunate to have discovered the truth just in time.

The investigation will now focus on her motives, past partners, and whether financial or emotional exploitation was involved.
