Three fatalities have been confirmed, and up to six or seven individuals remain unaccounted for after a multi-storey building collapsed in Surat, Gujarat’s Sachin area, on Saturday. The incident occurred amid persistent heavy rainfall in the region over several days.

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot reported that a woman was rescued shortly after the collapse, while the bodies of three others were recovered by nightfall. Rescue operations involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local fire department have been ongoing.

The building, which collapsed around 3 pm, housed approximately 30 flats, with only a few occupied at the time of the incident. Initial reports suggest that several people who were either working or asleep inside became trapped under the debris. According to officials cited by ANI, the building was constructed between 2016 and 2017.

In a separate incident earlier this year in Gujarat, four workers were injured when a section of an under-construction medical college building in Morbi collapsed in March. One worker was rescued after being trapped for seven hours during the incident, which occurred while workers were engaged in roof filling on the first floor of the new building.
